Chandigarh, June 3, 2023: Nearly 150 cancer survivors along with their family members enjoyed themselves at an exclusive screening of the Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan starrer, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, organised for them by Saarthak, the Cancer Support Group of Fortis Cancer Institute, Mohali, at Elante Mall here today.

The event was organised to mark National Cancer Survivors Day.

Elated at the gesture undertaken by Fortis Hospital Mohali, a cancer survivor, said, “It was a life-changing moment for me when I was diagnosed with the disease. I was depressed for some time but the team of doctors at Fortis Mohali treated me and I was able to recover.”

Another cancer survivor, said, “I’m thankful to Fortis Mohali for this unique gesture and for letting others like me experience a fun-filled moment. Such events help us forget our problems. I also met other cancer survivors where we exchanged our views and experiences. This has strengthened my resolve to fight the disease and spread awareness about the same.”

Dr Rajeev Bedi, Director, Medical Oncology, Fortis Cancer Institute, Mohali, suggested to the cancer survivors to reach out to other members of the community. “Joining a support group like Saarthak will allow cancer survivors to bond well and become each other’s support. Getting diagnosed with the disease is a heartbreaking moment for many. Patients become emotional and start feeling that other people can’t understand their struggles. This makes it hard for them to relate to other people and often leads to loneliness. This makes it important for cancer survivors to join support groups where they can voice their thoughts and emotions.”

Dr Narendra Bhalla, Director, Radiation Oncology, Fortis Cancer Institute, Mohali, said, “It is a harrowing time for patients to undergo radiation. Such get-togethers help them meet people with a positive outlook towards life and have benefitted from the treatment. I want this day to be a celebration of the survivors’ indomitable spirit.”
