Ministry should allocate their proposed Data Centre Economic Zone or Data Centre Park in the state of Punjab: Sahney to IT Minister
2 min readChandigarh, August 22, 2022: Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab Vikramjit Singh Sahney met Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi to discuss various steps to make Punjab an emerging IT hub of the country.
Sahney stated that the Ministry should allocate their proposed Data Centre Economic Zone or Data Centre Park in the state of Punjab with the applicable capital subsidies/fiscal incentives. Punjab with its stable climatic conditions, reasonable land cost, excellent digital connectivity and much more favourable factors will be the best suitable option for this park.
Vikramjit Sahney said that the Central government should kindly consider the proposal of Punjab government for setting up Semiconductor wafer fabrication (Fab) facilities at Rajpura (District Patiala) favourably under the India Semiconductor scheme. The Punjab government has already given confirmation about the availability of 250-acre land for this purpose.
Sahney also took up the issue about upgradation of Semi-conductor Laboratory at SAS Nagar (Mohali). It is India’s only large-scale lab running successfully and contributing to India’s space programme and other electronic strategic electronics requirements.
Sahney prominently discussed Incentives for setting up Rural/Cyber IT Villages in Punjab with the IT Minister. According to the Punjab MP, Investment trend in Punjab for IT services has exhibited significant growth in the last couple of years. So, he requested the central government to support rural IT entrepreneurship by providing fiscal incentives to young entrepreneurs and MNCs for setting up their IT business operations and generating employment in Rural areas Additional incentives can be extended to IT companies for training and employing local youth in these villages.
Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwnini Vaishnaw agreed to consider all the requests made by Vikramjit Singh Sahney.
